What the $499 actually buys.
It is us doing the work, not a fee for opening an account. Every line below is a job you would otherwise do yourself at the end of a fourteen hour day.
- Your menu, built for you
- Sizes, option groups, toppings, half and half prices, categories. If your menu is on another ordering platform or in a spreadsheet, we import it. You do not retype your menu.
- Your configuration
- Hours, order types, ready-in times, delivery fees and minimums, taxes, printers, kitchen stations, staff and their PINs.
- Your Stripe account, connected and tested
- Opened in your name, connected from your back office, and tested with a real payment before you go live.
- Ordering on your website
- Installed and tested on your actual site, or a hosted ordering page set up if you do not have one.
- Training
- One session for you on the back office, one for your staff on the register and the kitchen screen.
- Going live with us watching
- Not a login emailed to you on a Friday afternoon.
We do not run limited time setup discounts. The fee is what the work costs.
Against the other ways to take an online order.

Will this be cheaper than Toast or Square?
Sometimes, and not always, and we will do the arithmetic with you rather than show you a calculator built to win.
Here is the part most vendors leave out. Square and Toast are payment companies: the software is cheap because the margin is in your card rate, and that margin grows every year you grow. We take no card margin at all, so there is nothing for us to subsidise the software with, and you pay Stripe's published rate directly instead of a POS company's bundled one. Which of those adds up to less depends on your volume and your average ticket, and it is arithmetic, not a slogan.
Where we are clearly the better buy: when you are paying Owner.com or ChowNow for ordering on top of a register you already pay for, when you want the merchant account in your own name, or when you want the people who host your website to run your register too.
Tell us your monthly sales and your average ticket and we will show you both numbers, including the one where you should stay where you are.
Questions we actually get.
What does Zabtek charge per order?
Nothing. $99 or $199 a month per location, a one time $499 setup, and nothing per order, ever.
Then who gets the card fee?
For an order paid online, Stripe, and only Stripe. You connect your own Stripe account, which is yours and stays yours, and Stripe's published US rate is 2.9% + 30c. We do not add to it and we cannot change it.
For a card taken at your counter, whoever you already pay. It runs on your own terminal through your own processor at your own rate. We never see it, never touch it and never take a part of it.
Can I take a card at the counter?
Yes, on any card reader you like. We sell software and we do not sell hardware, so you keep the terminal you already have and the processing rate you already agreed, and the register records that payment against the order. Add it in the back office under whatever name your staff call it, and refunds, reports and your end of day all include it.
The honest part, because it matters on a busy counter: the reader and the register are two separate things. Your staff run the card on the terminal and enter the amount on the register, and a refund is the register telling them to give it back on that same terminal. Two entries instead of one. On Toast or Square the reader is integrated and the amount crosses over by itself, which is also why that reader is theirs and ours is whichever one you want.
There is also Scan to Pay, which needs no terminal at all: the register shows a QR code, your customer pays on their own phone into your own Stripe account at the online rate, and the same link is their receipt.
Do you have loyalty or customer accounts?
No. There are no customer logins and no points, rewards or stored cards. What exists is a customer record built from orders, so a phone number brings up a name, past orders and saved addresses at the register.
How long is the contract?
There is not one. Billing is monthly and you can cancel. Clover publishes "$179/mo for 36 months" on its own pricing page; we have nothing of that shape.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Your menu exports to a spreadsheet and your orders and reports export to CSV, from the back office, whenever you want, including before you buy. Your Stripe account, your payment history and your money were never ours to hold. Your customers order on your own website at your own domain, so that address stays yours.
Who answers when it breaks on a Friday night?
We publish Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern, on 330-203-1936 and support@zabtek.com, and those are the hours we answer. One more thing worth knowing about a Friday night: with the internet down the register keeps taking cash orders and printing kitchen tickets, and syncs everything when the connection comes back.
What hardware do I need?
A touchscreen computer for the register, a receipt printer, a kitchen printer or a screen, a cash drawer if you take cash, and your existing card reader if you take cards at the counter. It runs in a browser, so it is ordinary hardware you can buy anywhere and none of it is locked to us. Toast's own terms say its services "may only be used on approved Toast hardware"; we have no such line, and we do not sell card terminals at all.
Printing goes through the browser to that device's own printer, and Chrome has a setting that skips the print dialog. Buy it all yourself if you like. If you would rather we sourced the screen, the printers and the drawer, we pass them on at what they cost us, and your card reader stays your own business either way.
Will my existing website work with this?
Yes. Ordering drops into your current site with two lines of code, so your customers never leave your domain. If you do not have a site, you get a hosted ordering page at your own Zabtek address. Zabtek builds websites too, so if your site needs work we can talk about that separately.
Is it accessible?
Accessibility is a baseline in everything we build, not an add-on. The ordering overlay is a real dialog that closes on Escape. We have not had it independently audited and we will not claim a certificate we do not hold. If you find something that fails, tell us and we fix it.
How many restaurants use Zabtek POS?
None are live yet. Our first is a pizzeria whose website we already build and host, and it has not launched on the platform. You would be early. That means our direct number and real influence on what gets built next, and it means trusting a small company. We would rather you decide that with the facts in front of you than find it out on the call.
Why is there no "buy now" button?
Because we would rather talk to you for fifteen minutes than take $499 from someone we are the wrong fit for. The price is on this page so you never have to ask for it.
See it with your own menu on it.
Fifteen minutes on a screen share. Tell us what you sell in a month and what your average ticket is, and we will do the arithmetic in front of you, including the version where you should stay where you are.
